Ms. Charlotte A. Misoya – Board Chairperson

Ms. Charlotte A. Misoya is the current Board Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority. Charlotte is a registered pharmacist who holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) from Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS), formerly known as the College of Medicine, University of Malawi.

She has professional experience in the pharmaceutical sector, particularly in community pharmacy practice. She is currently working with Pharmacare Pharmacies Limited at the Lilongwe Branch, where she serves as the Branch Manager. Prior to joining Pharmacare in July 2023, she gained experience working in two retail pharmacies in Lilongwe.

Prof. Adamson S. MUULA – Member

Prof. Adamson S. MUULA is a public health physician and a professor in Public Health & Epidemiology at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS). He studied at the Flinders University of South Australia and the University of Malawi- College of Medicine, graduating in 1998 with the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degrees. He holds a Master of Public Health from Loma Linda University (California) and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (United States).

He is Board-Certified in Public Health by the National Board of Public Health Examiners (United States). Prof Muula is a Fellow of the East, Central and Southern Africa College of Public Health Physicians (FCPHP-ECSA) and also a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences-Malawi.

Prof. Muula is the current Chairperson of the Clinical Trial Review Sub-Committee of the Board.

Ms. Cecilia Tembo – Member

Ms. Cecilia Tembo is a pharmacist holding a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) degree with pharmaceutical practice experience in various pharmacy managerial positions. She has also worked as a consultant with IQVIA on a GSK-funded project focused on strengthening pharmacovigilance systems and medicine safety monitoring in Africa.

Ms. Tembo serves as the current Chairperson of the Pharmacy Committee, which also serves as the disciplinary committee. She is also a member of the Medicines Quality and Safety Monitoring Committee, contributing to strengthening pharmaceutical regulation and promoting the safe use of medicines.

Mr. Patrick Exford Gwedeza – Member

Mr. Patrick E. Gwedeza is an integrity-rooted and dependable registered pharmacist by Pharmacy and Medicine Regulatory Authority (PMRA) of Malawi. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy (Hons) obtained from Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS), formerly College of Medicine (COM). He is also a member of the Pharmaceutical Society ofMalawi (PHASOM). Patrick has vast experience in hospital, retail and wholesale pharmacy. He did his internship at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) and worked as Pharmacy Manager at Pharmaworld wholesale and Theo’s Retail Pharmacy in Blantyre-Malawi. Currently, he is working at Neno district Health Office (DHO) under Ministry of Health and Sanitation as Deputy Pharmacist In-Charge for the district.

He is the current Chairperson of the Medicines Sub-Committee of the PMRA Board and a member of the Allied Substances Sub-Committee.

Dr. Wachimota Phiri – Member

Dr. Chimota Phiri is a  qualified internal medicine specialist and also a qualified Nephrologist working at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) where he is heading the Internal Medicine Department and runs the kidney and dialysis services. He previously he worked as District Health Officer at Nkhatabay District Hospital. He did his undergraduate medical training at KuHES and completed his postgraduate training at the University of Capetown in South Africa.  He is a fellow of the International Society of Nephrologists (ISN), Fellow of the College of Physicians of South Africa, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP). Fellow of the East,  Central and Southern  Africa College of Physicians (ECSA). He is the current Chairperson of the National Medicines Committee.

He is alo the current Chairperson of the Medicines Safety and Quality Monitoring Committee of the PMRA Board.

Mr. Ellos Lodzeni – Member

Mr Ellos Lodzeni is a passionate Patient, Health and Social Justice advocate and also a WHO Patient for Patient Safety Champion. He is the Founder and Patron of Patient and Community Welfare Foundation of Malawi (PAWEM ),a cross disease National Patient organization which advocates for the meaningful engangement of patients and inclusion of lived experience in a bid to amplifying the Patient voice and influence health policy towards patient centred health care and attainment of UHC.

Ellos is a holder of a Bachelor of Arts, Public Administration (Credit) degree from Chancellor College of the Universty of Malawi and also a Master of Arts (Development) degree obtained from the University of East Anglia, UK. He has over thirty five (35) years Public Sector experience having served in various Ministries and the Office of the Ombudsman in Senior Management positions. Ellos has been a Board member in various institutions at the National and Global level representing the Patient voice since 2009.

He is member of the Finance and Administration Sub-Committee and Medicines Sub-Committee of the Board.

Mrs. Ruth Lonjezo Kasalika – Member

Mrs. Ruth Lonjezo Kasalika is a chartered accountant with Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) and Management Information Specialist with an Advanced Diploma in Management Information Systems with Institute of Management Information Systems (IMIS) based in United Kingdom.

Ruth has a vast experience in financial reporting, analysis and planning. Her expertise was gained from the following organisations she worked with: Southern Bottlers Malawi Ltd, Africa Leaf Ltd (now JTI), Combine Cargo Mw Ltd, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, and now with Chibuku Malawi Limited. On her current professional role, she is combining Management and Financial accounting.

Mrs. Ruth Kasalika is the current Chairperson of the Finance and Administration Sub-Committee of the PMRA Board.
